Competency requirements

  • Applicant's name must be displayed on the Licence
  • 'Supervisor's Certificate' Licence is accepted
  • Licence must show competency as an (A-Grade) Electrician, a “Supervised Electrical Licence” is not accepted.
  • Licence must be in date / valid
  • Black and white OR colour copy of this document is accepted
  • Only front side of the electrical licence is required
  • Evidence must be clear and legible
  • Licence must be issued by the relevant Australian State Government Authority 
    • For Queensland: QLD Government
    • For NSW: NSW Department of Fair Trading
    • For Victoria: EnergySafe VIC
    • For WA: Electrical Licencing Board or Energysafe WA 
    • For NT: NT Government 
    • For Tas: TAS Department of Justice 
    • For SA: South Australia Government 
  • Digital version of Trades & OH&S construction licences are accepted however they must be validated against:
  • If a digital licence is presented it must be a screenshot of the digital licence and not an email confirmation of the licence. All other features of the licence must also be present as stated above.
  • If the Issue/renewal date on the licence reflects a future date, the award date in RIW can be entered as the upload date and the expiry date will be entered as per the licence expiry


Please note: A provisional licence, Supervised Electrical Licence or apprentice licence is not acceptable as evidence for a full electrical licence.


Due to Covid-19, a letter from the Licencing Authority will be accepted, providing a back-to-source verification has been performed. Back-to-source verification involves visiting https://esv.vic.gov.au/licensing-coes/public-register-and-searches/ and searching the relevant register for the licence presented. 


The evidence letter must contain a copy of the cardholder's licence number, and these details must match what is contained on the register. Providing all details match, the full expiry can be granted on an RIW cardholders profile

Upload requirements

  • If there is an issue date shown on the licence, record this as the issue date in RIW. If the issue date is in the future then please use the current date as the award date.
  • Record the licence expiration date as the competency expiration date in RIW.
