Induction.Metro Standards Induction (26442)


Competency requirements

  • Applicants name must be displayed on the uploaded evidence.
  • A form of evidence such as Certificate of Achievement or Metro Test Questionnaire showing "MTM Standards Induction" must be uploaded.


NOTE: For Metro "MTM Standards Induction" Test Questionnaire - Applicant and Assessor's full names, signatures and signed dates must be displayed on the questionnaire (last page) and completed/assessed before uploading for specific for each role.

Induction.MTM Safety and Environmental Induction (26441)

From 1 January 2023, this competency must be awarded to the Rail Industry Worker profile using one of the following methods :

  • Directly awarded by the RTO who delivered the training, or
  • Added by a company if the certificate has back-to-source verification, such as a QR code. Please check the accepted evidence below for an example.

If the competency does not meet these requirements, you can refer to how Network-based competencies are managed in the RIW System for more information.



Competency requirements

  • Name on documentation to match the person registered (shortened version of name is accepted e.g. Chris for Christopher)
  • Please upload a certificate of completion / Statement of Attendance issued by one of MTM's authorised Registered Training Organisation (RTO) providers:
    • Metro Academy
    • John Holland Group
    • Training Ahead Australia (From 09/08/2021)
    • Australian Testing Services (From 23/08/2021)
    • The Instruction Company (certificates issued before 05/07/2020)
    • Skilled Rail Services (certificates issued before 01/10/2018)
    • Centre for Excellence in Rail Training (CERT) (certificates issued before 26/07/2021)
  • Statement of Attendance / Statement of Achievement / Certificate of Completion / Certificate should show either;
    • Statement of Attendance showing: Metro Safety and Environment Induction is accepted
    • Statement of Attendance showing: Metro Contractor Safety Recertification is accepted
    • Statement of completion showing: Metro Safety and Environment Induction is accepted
    • Statement of completion showing: Metro Contractor Safety Recertification is accepted
    • Metro Track Protection Card showing: Metro or MTM Safety and Environment Induction are accepted


Statements of Attainment:

  • Statements of attainment (issued by Metro Academy) can be accepted under this competency. Document should indicate completion of "TLIF2080 Safely Access the Rail Corridor" or "TLIF0020 Safely Access the Rail Corridor".
  • Statements of Attainment issued by training providers other than Metro Academy will not be accepted.


Cards are accepted in lieu - Cards must meet the following points:

  • Card must state MTM Safety and Environment Induction. 
  • Accepted cards are from:
    • Metro Track Protection Card
    • Skilled Card
    • Centre for Excellence in Rail Training (CERT)


Evidence from the following safeworking renewals is also acceptable, providing they are from Metro Academy:
  • MTM - MCSR
  • MTM - Lookout
  • MTM - Handsignaller
  • MTM - Track Force Protection Coordinator 3.1
  • MTM - Track Force Protection Coordinator 3.2
  • MTM - Track Force Protection Coordinator 3.3

Upload requirements

  • Issue date to be recorded (unless Metro track protection card is uploaded - no issue date required for this)
  • No expiry date is required.

MTM - Safely Working in the Rail Corridor (SWIRC) (91006)


Competency requirements

  • Applicant's name must be shown on the document.
  • Applicant's names on the document must match names in RIW (However, shortened first names such as 'Chris' for 'Christopher' are accepted.)
  • Safely Working in the Rail Corridor (SWIRC) Certificate of completion.
  • Only Metro Academy is approved to deliver the SWIRC course.
  • Black and white or colour can be accepted.



A statement of attainment for TLIF2080 is also accepted under this competency for certificates issued prior to 1/09/2019. The certificate must state the unit code TLIF2080 Safely Access the Rail Corridor
  • The TLIF2080 unit (from before 01/09/2019) can be used to exempt a worker from the SWIRC requirement.
  • Cards issued prior to 01/09/2019 are also accepted in lieu of a statement of attainment. Must show TLIF2080 unit. Previous equivalent unit codes accepted.
  • Updated 07/08/2020 – acceptance of cards showing unit TLIF2080 and Metro Track Protection cards
  • Connex issued card as shown in the acceptable examples below
  • “Skilled Cards” are also accepted. Must contain Train Track Safety Awareness – Level 1 with an issue date prior to 01/09/2019.
  • John Holland Rail Track Safety Awareness Card is accepted with an issue date prior to 01/09/2019.
  • Metro Track Protection Cards are also accepted if they show any of the below roles:
    • Train Track Safety Awareness
    • Lookout
    • Track Force Protection Coordinator 3.1
    • Track Force Protection Coordinator 3.2
    • Track Force Protection Coordinator 3.3

NOTE: Both sides of the Metro Track Protection Card must be uploaded. Award date = date of upload. The expiry date for any of the above job roles MUST be prior to 01/09/2021.
