Competency requirements

  • Applicants name must be displayed on the uploaded evidence.
  • A form of evidence such as Certificate of Achievement or Metro Test Questionnaire showing "MTM Signalling Document Induction" must be uploaded.


NOTE: For Metro "MTM Signalling Document Induction" Test Questionnaire - Applicant and Assessor's full names, signatures and signed dates must be displayed on the questionnaire (last page) and completed/assessed before uploading for specific for each role.

Induction.MTM Safely and Environmental Induction (26441)


Competency requirements

  • Name on documentation to match the person registered (shortened version of name is accepted e.g. Chris for Christopher)
  • Please upload a certificate issued by one of MTM's authorised Registered Training Organisation (RTO) providers:
    • Metro Academy
    • Centre for Excellence in Rail Training (CERT
    • John Holland Group
    • The Instruction Company
    • Skilled Rail Services (Only for certificates issued before 01.10.2018)
  • Statement should show either;
    • Statement of Attendance showing: Metro Safety and Environment Induction is accepted
    • Statement of Attendance showing: Metro Contractor Safety Recertification is accepted
    • Statement of completion showing: Metro Safety and Environment Induction is accepted
    • Statement of completion showing: Metro Contractor Safety Recertification is accepted
  • Card showing: Metro or MTM Safety and Environment Induction are accepted
  • Statement of Attainment issued by Metro Academy only can be accepted under this competency - (As of 03/10/2019 onwards) Document should indicate completion of TLIF2080 Safely Access the Rail Corridor
  • Statement of Attainment issued by other training providers other than Metro Academy will not be accepted.
  • Evidence from the following safeworking renewals is also acceptable, providing they are from Metro Academy:
    • MTM - MCSR
    • MTM - Lookout
    • MTM - Handsignaller
    • MTM - Track Force Protection Coordinator 3.1
    • MTM - Track Force Protection Coordinator 3.2
    • MTM - Track Force Protection Coordinator 3.3

Upload requirements

  • Issue date to be recorded (unless Metro track protection card is uploaded - no issue date required for this)
  • No expiry date is required.

MTM - Safely Working in the Rail Corridor (SWIRC) (91006)


Competency requirements

Updated 07/08/2020 - acceptance of cards showing unit TLIF2080 and Metro Track Protection cards                        

  • Applicants name must be shown on the document.
  • Applicants name on document to match applicants name in RIW (However shortened first names such as 'Chris' for 'Christopher' are accepted.
  • Safely Working in the Rail Corridor (SWIRC) Certificate of completion is required to be uploaded.
  • Only documentation issued by Metro Academy will be accepted. Available for viewing by clicking on green example document icon.
  • Black and white or colour can be accepted.
  • If an exemption letter is presented as evidence please contact competencies@metrotrains.com.au for approval to accept.
  • A statement of attainment for TLIF2080 is accepted under this competency for certificates issued prior to the 1/09/2019. The certificate must state unit code of TLIF2080 Safely Access the Rail Corridor.
  • Cards issued prior to 01/09/2019 are accepted in lieu of statement of attainment. Must show TLIF2080 unit. Previous unit codes accepted.
  • Metro Track Protection Cards are also accepted if they show any of the below roles:
    • Train Track Safety Awareness
    • Lookout
    • Track Force Protection Coordinator 3.1
    • Track Force Protection Coordinator 3.2
    • Track Force Protection Coordinator 3.3

NOTE: Both sides of the Metro Track Protection Card must be uploaded. Award date = date of upload.

Competency requirements

  • Evidence must be a booking confirmation from Metro Academy, evidence attached
  • Name on booking confirmation must match RIW cardholder name (highlighted in yellow in evidence
  • Must be booked for course "Safely Work in Rail Corridor (SWIRC)" (highlighted in yellow in evidence)
