Qualified. MTM Permit to Work (34916 or 31298)

From 1 January 2023, this competency must be awarded to the Rail Industry Worker profile using one of the following methods :

  • Directly awarded by the RTO who delivered the training, or
  • Added by a company if the certificate has back-to-source verification, such as a QR code. Please check the accepted evidence below for an example.

Competency requirements

  • Applicant's name must be shown on the document
  • Applicant's name on the document to match applicant's name in RIW (However, shortened first names such as 'Chris' for 'Christopher' are accepted)
  • As of 27/07/2022, all certificates must have the watermark “M” on them.


NOTE: As of 10/02/2021, the Metro Certificate of Authorisation Certificate must be loaded.

The certificate must be signed by either Stephen Chambers or Tara Pickering.

NOTE: The Certificate of Attendance is no longer accepted as of 10/02/2021
NOTE: Certificates issued before 27/07/2022 without the “M” watermark are accepted.

Upload requirements

  • Issue date = date of completion
  • Expiry date = 3 years from the date of completion
